Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has been awarded the Green Key certification, an internationally recognized distinction celebrating leaders in environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. The achievement reflects the resort’s ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the Maldives while delivering the thoughtful, elegant experiences synonymous with the Waldorf Astoria brand.

The Green Key certification, coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), highlights establishments that demonstrate excellence across a comprehensive set of sustainability standards. Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi distinguished itself across all certification criteria, underscoring its commitment to considered, sustainable practices. Through enhanced water management, responsible waste systems, progress in renewable energy, and the use of eco-minded amenities, the resort continues to pair environmental care with the elegance of the Waldorf Astoria experience.

The resort’s holistic approach includes advanced wastewater treatment and reuse, comprehensive waste separation in partnership with local facilities, and the integration of eco-labeled cleaning products and amenities. The resort’s solar energy project, currently in development, further supports its long-term ambition to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition, community-led initiatives, including collaborations with Parley for the Oceans and local island programmes, reinforce the resort’s commitment to positive environmental and social impact.
